Plants & Flowers – CLASS XXVI

Rules

PLEASE READ RULES CAREFULLY.
1. All flowers in sections 1-20 must be grown by exhibitor.
2. Arrangements, not necessary to be grown by exhibitor.
3. All plants must be at least 3 months old, one plant per pot unless otherwise specified.
4. Exhibitor to supply own container.
5. Count blooms carefully, no more, no less. Buds showing colour count as a bloom.
6. Let’s see plants larger than the pots.
7. Be a neat and tidy exhibitor.
8. Cut flowers must be shown with own foliage.
9. Height of arrangement should be at least 11/2 times the size of the container.
10. No artificial flowers or plants, and no luster spray to be used.
11. Tag to be placed at front of arrangement.
12. New exhibitor or anyone who did not show in 2006 or 2007, mark tag “New Exhibitor” on the front.
13. All other rules of homecraft division apply.

15. Container not to exceed 12” top (does not apply to arrangements).

1. Bowl of Aster - stems included
2. Marigolds - 5 stems, mixed variety
3. Cosmos - 5 sprays, any colour, up to 18” high
4. Chrysanthemum - container mixed variety, 3 stems
up to 2” blooms
5. Dahlia - decorative, 1 bloom, any colour
6. Dahlia - 3 stems, common variety, any colour
7. Gladiolus - 1 spike in waited container
8. Pansies - 3 blooms, same colour with attached
foliage
9. Petunia - 5 single blooms
10. Petunia - 5 double blooms
11. Canna Lily - 1 stem, any colour, waited container
12. Rose - 1 spray
13. Rose - single floating rose in 6 inch bowl
14. Snapdragon - 3 stems
15. Amaranth - 1 stem
16. Bachelor Buttons - 3 stems
17. Corn Flower - 5 stems, mixed colour
18. Zinnias - 5 mixed colour in container
19. Any other cut flower not listed above - 5 stems named

20. Geranium - 1 in pot, 10” - 12” in diameter, more
than 1 plant allowed, any colour, no larger
21. Impatients - 1 pot, no larger than 10” - 12”
22. Coleus - 1 pot, no larger than 10” - 12”
23. “Desert garden”, cactus or suitable succulent
in container
24. Houseplant in bloom - no larger than 10” - 12”
25. Any other houseplant not mentioned above in bloom,
no larger 10” - 12”
26. Herb - 1 named
27. Tuberous Begonia - no larger than 10” pot

28. Baby Tears - 1 pot

ARRANGEMENTS

Prizes for section 32-38: 1st - $4.00; 2nd - $3.50; 3rd - $3.00
29. “Garden Feast’”, arrangement of flowers and
accessories using a vegetable or fruit as a container
30. “Mini Magic”, miniature arrangement not to
exceed 5” in any direction
31. “September Song”, arrangement from the last of
your flower garden, not to exceed 12” high or wide
32. “Meet me at the Church”, arrangement suitable
for a church wedding
33. “Wild Side”, arrangement of special grasses,
seedpods, etc. using driftwood as base, not to
exceed 15” either way
34. “Creator”, create a bird or animal using a 8” square
pan using flowers and plant material
35. “Flower Power”, a minimum of 6 annuals,
different varieties in a suitable container

SPECIALS

A “Blend of Old”, a floral arrangement which depicts Beeton’s 152nd Anniversary displayed in or on a suitable antique, accessories may be used. Prizes: 1st -$20.00; 2nd -$15.00; 3rd -$10.00; donated by the BEETON AND DISTRICT AGRICULTURAL SOCIETY.
B “Fine Dining”, An arrangement for a formal dining room table, not to exceed 12” in any direction, using fresh flowers. Prizes: 1st - $20.00; 2nd - $15.00; 3rd - $5.00, donated by the DRYSDALE’S TREE FARM.
C “Fall Glory”, an arrangement using leaves and accessories. Prize: $25.00, donated by BOND HEAD HORTICULTURAL SOCIETY.
D “Best of Class for Cut Flowers”, section 1-20: Prize: $15.00 Gift Certificate donated by SOLTY’S GARDEN CENTRE, COOKSTOWN.
E “Best of Class for Plants”, section 21-31: Prize: $15.00 Gift Certificate donated by BERN’S FLOWERS, ALLISTON.
F “Best Flower Arrangement”, section 32-38: Prizes: 1st $25.00; 2nd -$15.00, Gift Certificate donated by WALTER’S GARDEN SUPPLY, TOTTENHAM.
G “Best Growing Plant(s)”, displayed in a toy (no cut flowers). Prize: 1st - $20.00; 2nd - $10.00, donated by EAGLECRES FARM CAMP, BEETON.
H New Exhibitor (anyone who did not show in Class XXVI in 2006 or 2007) with the most points. Prize: $20.00 West GWill Womens’s Institute
I Exhibitor with most points in Class XXVI, Prize: $20.00, donated by GREENSPOT GARDEN CENTRE, ALLISTON.
